Workshops are available for groups and guilds. I prefer a maximum of 15 students so I can get everyone the attention they deserve.
The following workshops are available, and we do take shimmy breaks so you don’t end up sitting down all day!
If you are interested in different classes, feel free to ask. I’m happy to create a custom class from any of my designs, from beginning cross stitch to the history of embroidery.
Cost for full classes is $50.00 per person (with a minimum of 6 people) plus kit fee and any travel expenses required for classes outside the North Carolina Triangle area.
Please email me for more information.
“Jeeves, about that Mint Julip…” 8 hours
Counted Bellpull Sampler
Historically, bellpulls were used – strangely enough, to ring a bell to call the servants! Learn many stitches, including 4 sided stitch, long-armed cross stitch and Italian cross stitch in this fun 8 hour class.
“Don’t Be Crewel!” 4 hours
Note: this workshop is also available in an all-day format, with a slightly bigger pattern and more stitches
Beginning Crewelwork
Stitch a small sampler in crewel wool with Appleton threads. Learn how to transfer a design to fabric, three of the most common stitches used in wool embroidery and tips and tricks to make crewelwork less cruel and more enjoyable!
“Stitching for Shimmies (or an evening out)” – 6 hours
Sequin and Bead-embroidered appliqués
Learn the basic techniques for making sequined and beaded appliques that you can then add to evening gowns, wedding gowns, bellydance costumes, or anywhere else that needs a sparkle!
Techniques include sequins, seed and bugle beads, finishing techniques and special notes for fitting custom appliqués to go over womanly curves! We’ll make a small applique sample, suitable for a lapel or using as a brooch to learn the techniques. Includes two additional coordinating floral patterns.
“Fearless Stitchery” – 6 hours
Learning to Modify and Design Needlework without Panicking
Spend a day playing with mark-making on paper and on fabric. Learn techniques to alter a basic cross stitch pattern in surprising ways, or to start from scratch even if you have no idea where to start!
“Doodle, Stitch, and Meditate” – 4 hours
Non-counted embroidery design & work for peace of mind or soul searching
For centuries, people in distress have described how sewing and embroidery have calmed them in times of need and helped them focus on what needed to be done, as well as filling hours of waiting time.
In this workshop, we’ll learn one or two simple stitches and then how to create a simplified meditative doodle directly on fabric, and then to stitch it, using both the drawing and the stitching as a meditative technique that can be adapted as needed.
No stitching experience necessary – advanced stitchers just have a larger repertoire of stitches to draw from!
